Astoria/La Push/Forks

After Cannon Beach we were off to Astoria (early) to see some Goonies landmarks and to take the 5 hour trek to La Push. The morning was beautifully foggy with jut the right amount of chill to the air. Finally what you'd expect from the Pacific Northwest

We stopped at some Goonies sites

Then caught breakfast...good small town diners.

Then the Goonies house.

Then we were off again.
When we got to La Push we ate at the only restaurant on the reservation and watched seals throw fish around and eat, along with bald and golden eagles. It was amazing. None of us had ever seen anything like it.

Then we checked in to our cabin and went down to First Beach.

Eagle prints. Amazing!

Never seen so many eagles. Before this I'd only seen one at a far distance in Oregon...I think we've seen every eagle in this area now (I hope not, though).

We started to walk back, but then a Bald Eagle landed on the beach not too far from us, so I went down to see how close I could get. It was trying, along with some crows, to eat this:
I was less than 20 feet away from this beast. It was absolutely beautiful and one of the highlights of my life, really. At one point we were just staring at each other...he went to fly away, but then stopped and just eyed me for the longest time. Eventually I scared it off.

I got back up to where Lindsey and Stefano were when about 4 eagles came flying down to get the fish. The crows tried to fight them away, but the eagles weren't having it. At one point there were about 10 eagles (bald and golden) on the beach in one area.
Then we went back to the cabin to play games and start mayhem.
When it was late enough we went down to the beach for a bonfire.
I built the fire and Stefano built a shelter. It was the most amazing shelter ever...it kept out the sandy wind perfectly.

of course we had some beer

...and roasted marshmallows.
We went to bed late, had a lie in, then checked out and were on our way to Forks.

This is the house Stephanie Meyer envisioned as the Cullen house...it's really a bead and breakfast.

In the visitor's center...Stefano conveying the same thought we all had...this place is way too much. The town is about 4 blocks long and every window is packed with Twilight stuff.
....but we still took a bit of advantage.

This is the house Meyer envisioned as Bella's house (obviously).

We had the best Mexican food for lunch (and dinner...love leftovers!)
The hotel has a heated pool...it's like cool bath water. Being in it was nice, but getting out was painfully cold. Very fun.
We came, we saw, we did...Tomorrow we'll be exploring the Hoh rain forest and Ruby beach. Should be amazing.
